Apparently, applying Samsung updates will void your warranty.
An article on The Consumerist sheds some light on a shady tactic by Samsung. A man, we’ll call him Eric wanted to use his laptop with his Samsung LN-T4061F television through the HDMI port. He was able to see video on his television but he couldn’t get any sound. So he hooked it up to his Olevia television and everything worked out. He was able to get video and audio on that television. So he went to Samsung’s website and noticed that there was a firmware update for his television so he decided to try it out. After installing the firmware, the picture was all screwed up. So, he called Samsung support. He told them what happened and they had the audacity to tell him that he “physically damaged” the television by installing the software and voided the warranty in the process. All they were able to offer him was a service call at his expense. Eesh, with support like that we would almost rather be neglected.
