It pretty sad to say, but the reality is that DLP televisions won’t be around for much longer, at least not the way they started out originally. Many of the manufacturers that started making these sets got out of the business for a lot of reasons, but one of the big ones boils down to one thing – the bulb.
It’s reasonable and understandable. Light bulbs are in everything from your refrigerator, to your car, to your home, but when one of those go dead, you can usually snag a replacement one from a store and do it all for under $10. For DLP TVs, it’s a completely different story since they cost at least $200, and you can only get them from a handful of place. Now I’d venture to say that almost everyone that bought one knew that they were getting into. The problem was that manufacturers started believing their own marketing hype when it came to lamp hours.
Customers knew that they were getting the short end of the stick and had no problem letting people know.
It’s refreshing to hear that manufacturers, namely Mitsubishi is taking steps to reassure people that they’re willing to make things better. If you have a lamp go out in one of their TVs, call Consumer Relations (800. 332.2119).
