PJ -

Sorry to hear that, and even more sorry to report I've had the same issue begin with my KDF-70XBR950. From some quick research on the internet appears we are not alone, it is very widespread! I contacted Sony via https://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/contact-email.pl?mdl=KDF70XBR950, we'll see what they say.

I have a Sony KDF 60XS955 HD 1080i LCD proyection TV. Recently blue dots started to appear on the screen and with each passing day they have incremented susbtantially, creating a blue haze and changing the appeareance of colors. Today, while watching the royal wedding, the princess' dress started to turn yellow, and now, in addition to the thousands of blue dots, I know have a translucent yellow blob right in the middle of the screen. I am aware it is nto the bulb, the bulb is brand new. After some research it has come to my attention it is the Optical Block, that Sony has recognized it is a faulty part and that they replace the same under a recall/warranty extension.

Do you have any idea how to go about this and have this fixed? The set looks awefull and it is driving me crazy. This is such a wonderful TV to watch before all this started to happen. Thanks!

I purchased my KDF50WE655 in 2005 as well. I started having the blue blubs and streaks about 3 months ago. I called Sony about 3 weeks ago and they gave me theses options: 1. purchase a new 55"
KDLNX 810 for $860.00, 2. purchase a new 46" for about $600.00 or they would give me a new 40".
I just received my 55" yesterday. Though it was not in my plans to buy another TV at this time, the
cheapest price I found for the Bravia KDL55NX810 was $1850.00.

I also purchased the Sony KDF42WE620, I believe it is a 2005, and now experience severe blue blobs and dots. What reaqlly PO's me is that I was not made aware of this deficiency by Sony and did not find out until after the expiration of the extended warranttee for this problem. They have my warrantee card and info, why was I not notified? I paid near $3000. which is now down the tube. I will not, ever for any reason purchase another Sony product. Thank you Sony, good luck with your ratings....

I have a KDF-60XS955 the optic block was replaced under extended warranty after 3 years of owning this tv, one year later the same problem. Sony will not stand behind their product all they could say is "its out of warranty we can't help you". I went as far as filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, Sony came back with you can buy another tv at a discount price which was like $1200. No thanks. I hope Sony goes down cause of this.

Its unfortunate that sony couldn't be bothered to advertise this extra support or that there was a problem. We bought the KF-50we620 in January 2005. It started to get spots in late 2009. We thought it was just a smear on the screen that wasn't cleaning off. When we finally found out otherwise, it was a week after the end of our extended warranty. Sony should be held responsible for all models of the television, especially when they are aware it can fail. When you pay $5000 for a television, you expect it to last.

Hope you continue having good luck w/your tv. We have the same one & have @ 11k hours on it; it's about 5 years old. We now have the "blue blob"... after researching & discovering Sony issued an extended warranty for this exact issue, but failed to contact the buyers of these $3K models about it... and we're SOL now... we'll keep it as long as we can still watch it & then we will NEVER buy another Sony product again. That is NOT how you build loyal customers! The rep I talked to wouldn't even acknowledge that there even was a problem...<br>Good luck to you!

Hi Rob, there doesn't look like it's limited to any specific models, and that there isn't a way of preventing it. I can't say with 100% certainty but if you haven't experienced the issue by now, I'd say it's a good chance that you won't experience it for the rest of the time you own your television. In the meantime....enjoy it. A lot of other people haven't had the same fortune you've had.

I have a KDF-55WF655 that is covered by extended future shop warranty until September 2010. While I have not had any issues in the four + years that I have owned the TV I am concerned that something is going to happen to it after the warranty expires. My TV is currently well over 10,000 hours of usage. Does the opitcal block issue occur in all KDF-55WF655 TV's and it is just a matter of time? Is there any way of preventing it from happening?
