From the New York Times:

Consumers have become conditioned to wait until the Christmas holiday period to get the best prices on most items. And when it comes to consumer electronics, the savings can be pretty spectacular.

Quixel Research, a TV research firm, is predicting that end-of-year price drops for L.C.D. and plasma TVs “could” be as much as 15-20 percent quarter-over-quarter. There’s no guarantee this will happen, as it depends on manufacturers’ inventories, their desire to gain market share and other factors.

But if you’re in the market for a TV now, prices are already pretty compelling. Prices for L.C.D. and plasma sets have gotten so competitive, that the market for rear-projection sets has moved into only the biggest size screens, a trend that analysts predicted last year.

After their recent article about Twitter and other microblogging sites, it’s important to note that in 2008 there are still people that don’t have DLP televisions, cell phones or the internet in some cases.  Even with the internet, there are some people caught in the 1990′s feeling that the web isn’t safe or secure enough to give them their information.

Those that adopt the idea of buying online will definitely save.  Consider sites like Fatwallet.com who will pay you to shop, or sites like Geeks.com that have LCD and Plasma televisions starting at $249.

Do you feel that?  It’s the sound of thousands of people shopping online for their next big screen TV.  Let the stampede begin.
