Samsung has been advertising several of their televisions as 3D ready. The idea is that once more 3D content is available you can update your television to get all of the benefits without buying new hardware. This is often referred to as future-proofing. The only downside is that 3D content is beginning to become available and Samsung hasn’t released the necessary firmware to upgrade the televisions.
This begs the question of if Samsung will ever come around and produce it. It wouldn’t be the first time in electronics a company told people their hardware would work later on (See Microsoft) and $1,400+ is too much to be spending for a feature that may work later on.
We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
