Vizio isn’t Samsung. Vizio isn’t Panasonic. Vizio is Vizio. This means that you’re going to get exactly what you pay for when you get a 42″ 1080p LCD HDTV for $649.
Over at HDGuru, they take aim at the legalese of the warranties to show that while Vizio televisions may be a better “value” you may end up getting equipment which will cost you in the long run. If anything, it’s probably more like the opposite. Companies who have spent their time on making quality products have instead decided to make lower quality products banking on the name. There are examples with Toyota’s sludge problem with their engines, or Sharp going downmarket to create televisions with lower technology making them easier to produce and buy.
No matter where you buy your set; no matter what name is on it do your homework. Going by the brand name along or the fine print on the warranty won’t guarantee anything.
