The writing has been on the wall for a pretty long while that DLP is dying. Sony hasn’t been sitting waiting for their television business to become obselete. Instead they’re releasing televisions like the 52XBR7 which boasts the unique trait of being a 240Hz television. The point of having the refresh rate being higher than 60Hz is to provide a picture that appears smoother to the eye. Currently 120Hz televisions are the kings of high-end television in terms of what’s available on the market.
All that will change on 1/1/2009 when the 52XBR7 starts to ship to customers. At over $4,000 everyone won’t be running to pick one of these up early next year. Price aside, this is probably one of the best televisions available on the market. CNet agrees, giving the television high marks.
