Televisions are known to take up lots of energy, but a new class of energy efficient televisions are showing promise.  TVs end up taking so much power due to vampire power, or power that is used even when the television is off.  Since unplugging your TV everytime you’re not using it isn’t a sensible option for many people these new eco TVs sound real good.

Take, the KDL-52VE5 for example.  It will be able to operate in a zero-watt power consumption mode which will allow it to keep power drain to a minimal.  Also the backlight for the KDL52VE5 will use 40% less power compared to previous lines of 52 inch televisions.

Also there is the 42PFL5603D.  This Philips HDTV won CNET’s Best of CES award due to its design and energy conscious power use.
