LCD & Plasma HDTV Repair Forum

We’ll probably never have our own TV repair forum.  There are just too many people out there who’ve already been tackling problems and the last thing we need is another site looking to reinvent the wheel.

Instead, we’ll highlight and direct people to great site we come across.

One such site is AVRepair.info.  They have information for televisions of almost any make and model.  They have information for newer LCD and Plasma televisions but if you need to know why you’re old black and white TV is on the fritz they probably have that information too.

And once you know what you need to get your TV back in working order, we suggest you pick up the parts you need from our partner, PartStore.com.

I have a Sony PFM-42B2 plasma. Had it since new. About a year ago it started to have horizontal lines while 'warming up' ? After only a couple minutes the lines would move faster and faster until gone. Now, it starts out with seemingly normal picture, then the lines start, they reach a fast pace, then slow, then roll the opposite direction, then speed up and disappear. This process now takes over 30 minutes. It's been such a great TV I hate to toss it. Recently on ebay there are some of the 42B2's boards for auction. I'm guessing the source of this is the video board with the input connectors on it. Can anyone advise me? Oh...we have a DVD connected, and when we play that, this problem does not exist. Only when we are connected to cable tv does this problem seem to occur.

Further information on the power supply. The supply is not NEC but Origin Electric Co China supply model PNT-426, pcb PKG-1953. I believe it may be used in other plasmas too. I replaced any caps that had poor ESR readings. Supply ran but the 160v rail would slowly from to about 136v then supply would go into standby. Picture was fine until about 145v the a bit noisy. Eventually with me turning it on and off to diagnose rails the supply failed. Now I can see B+HV DC pre regulator. Also 5v out of 74l05 for standby but turned off by protection before leaving the board to standby switch. Choppers not running.

My TV bill is out of control. In my house we have 3 TVs, each with cable tv service. We get about 65 channels, but no HD programming. My husband really wants HD for his sports. Baseball season is coming and he is anxious to get it. For what I consider limited service I pay $125 a month . Does that seem way too high? What is a better idea if I wanted HD??

My NEC PX-42VP4g plasma panel goes into standby when I turn it on Its boots up runs for 5 seconds and then shuts down to standby. Checked the supplies. The HV 170v supply begins to drop after turn on the cuts off back to standby when it drops tp about 136V. Picture does appear ok before switches itself off. Replaced a couple of caps with low readings and poor ESR but all the others look fine. No schematic for me to work with. Can any body help with this problem? It is evidently a common one for this series but none of the databases seem to have a fix posted. Unusual for such a known problem. This one has me baffled.

I hope someone can advise me how they fixed theirs
