DLP televisions have a whole other set of moving parts that their older CRT cousins didn’t. Since they use a lamp, something has to be there to regulate the power being fed to it to ensure that it fires properly. This is where your ballast comes in. If it isn’t working you’ll know because you won’t be able to see much on your screen. If you’ve already replaced the lamp and the problem isn’t fixed, it may be time to consider if the ballast if the problem.
One of the most popular ballasts for Samsung DLP televisions is BP47-00017A.
Since I’m not a technician I won’t go into great length about how to replace one, but it doesn’t look like it would take a lot to take care of since it’s only a small piece. Of course, if you don’t think you’re up to it – call a professional. No reason to have to buy a new TV because you were too proud.
