While not as good as our own HDTV Buyer’s Guide, SFGate has a buying guide for big screen televisions. It isn’t complete or comprehensive but it raises some good points. It glosses over some pretty big points.
It doesn’t factor in hanging your television or whether it’ll be sitting on a stand. If it’s going to just be sitting on a stand, you can consider DLP televisions which usually give you a bigger television for several hundred dollars less.
Also, the article doesn’t go into making sure you have the right size. It’s subjective but there is information out there on making sure the television you buy is ideal for where you’re going to be viewing and for what purposes.
Lastly, it doesn’t break down the difference between 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. All televisions aren’t 1080p, and there are times when you wouldn’t even notice the difference because you’re just not far enough away for your eyes to detect the extra detail.
If you’d like a more general idea of how to choose the right tv, give it a read.
