If you own a LCD HDTV, you may be all too familiar with the clouding effect. It is also known as the flashlight effect.
This is caused due to uneven lighting and can be seen specifically in scenes which are all black. Clouding isn’t usually seen at all in plasma television since they use a different technology for a backlight. There is no cure (except for getting a different television), but one way for it to not impact your television viewing so much is to watch in a room with light in it. Then the variances of shading won’t be as pronounced.
