
During the 2009 CES many of the manufacturers demonstrated widgets which can be displayed on television. Samsung, as the largest television manufacturer, is on the forefront and this could extend into a model we’ve already seen.
While it’s true that many of the higher end Samsung televisions come with the ability to check stocks and weather, there’s an opportunity for Samsung to drive revenue by offering widgets on their televisions. By circumventing the providers and allowing the television to access the web via a wired or wireless web connection.
Imagine if you’d be able to get a monthly subscription to the Wall Street Journal where you’re able to watch video and read the latest news stories on your television. Another option would be to have an application where you’d be able to join your friends and chat about television shows. The possibilities are endless.
