CNET has an article where they go into why plasma is still a great choice. The reality is that it only made sense to start talking about the death of plasma once companies were coming out and saying that they wouldn’t be making any more.
I doubt any of them believe it because when you go to retail stores or search online you still see plasma televisions. When you read reviews about HDTVs plasma TVs still make the list, and when people start looking around for the cheapest television they can find in the 42 – 50″ range many people end up picking plasma.
It only makes sense now to be speaking about it’s revival. Panasonic and Samsung have released model with tons of acclaim and anticipation. For example, you can check out our PN42B450 review.
Plasma isn’t dead. It’s just different. It isn’t competing against LED or OLED or even LCD. The people who pick plasma TVs do so for good reason whether it’s to watch movies, to watch sports or some other reason. Either way, these other technologies may be good but until they prove they have better blacks – there will always be a place for plasma.
