According to an article on Twice.com, iSuppli has come out with some predictions regarding pricing and availability of LCD televisions as the end of the year approaches.
There was a point in time during 2008 where there was lot of extra capacity for the glass used to make LCD televisions. In an effort to stem the capacity increase some manufacturers slowed or even stopped production. This has created a shortage during some parts of 2009. During the shortage, prices for LCD televisions increased.
iSuppli has been a pretty decent source of this kind of information in the past but current market conditions don’t really jive. Here in the US, you can get a 42″ television for under $600. It’s true that many 32″ televisions are available for the same price, but it’s likely that many people are buying bigger sets which are better values. With regards to Black Friday, we may even see a 42″ HDTV for $499.
Since they report on the global changes, this points to other countries paying more than we pay here in the US.
