If you have ever enjoyed watching television from an angle, you should thank Hitachi for developing Super In Plane Switching. S-IPS involved a lot of technology I don’t have the know how to properly articulate but as you’ll see in the above graphic it excels at allowing color to maintain even when not viewed directly. It’s a technology used in laptops, cell phones, and also HDTVs. This technology has been commercially available since at least 2007.
Being able to ensure these slight changes in color when viewing an image from different angles has helped to provide the technology backbone of many of the newer televisions available on the market. For example, LG uses S-IPS as the foundation for the technology in their own televisions.
