On June 6th, like many people, I realized that there would be an opportunity to get my hands on a Palm Pre. I had check out the reviews, written posts about facts, and finally – today was the day. Due to prior commitments I wasn’t able to sit and wait for stores to open so I could be one of the first to own one. Actually after downloading Skyfire for my ailing Q9c, I was fine with holding onto it for a few more months while another phone could be made available.
Finally at around 5pm I made my way to a Sprint store to take a look at what all the fuss was about. By that time, there was no crowd at the store. The Sprint store at Camp Creek parkway was pretty much a ghost town which made it easy to check the Pre out in person.
It felt great in my hand. None of the reviews are going to match the feeling of the actual hardware. Everything was fact, everything worked and I finally decided I wanted one yet knew that due to my wait that there would be little likelihood of picking one up.
From that point, I called every Best Buy in the metro Atlanta area because I new that they’d be getting some. It turns out that some stores only received 3 or 4 which led me to another option. I didn’t want to pay the $299 price upfront and didn’t that many other people would want to as well so I started calling other Sprint stores. It took about 5 calls but finally the Sprint store on Cobb Parkway told me that they not only had Pre’s available, but that they started the day with 300.
The day prior I called Walmart and RadioShack and found out that none of the Georgia stores at either chain would have the phone.
Right now, my new Pre is charging and if you don’t have one and want one you may only need to start waiting until Tuesday which is when I was told that more of the phones would be coming in. Stay strong and if you picked up a Pre, please share your story in the comments.
