DirecTV Is A Pain In The Butt

If you work for DirecTV or know someone who does, then please excuse this post as nothing more than a rant.

It all starts when I realize that I can’t wait until I can get rid of DirecTV service.  It’s not about it going out when it rains bad (which it does) or that they keep increasing my bill (which they have), it comes down to good old fashioned customer service.

DirecTV – you suck.  More than a fleet of Dyson vacuum cleaners and I can prove it to you.

I joined DirecTV as part of an AT&T triple play offer which was great for the first 12 months but afterwards, I saw my big jump from $100 to over $150.  I don’t blame them for that, I knew what I was signing and how long I was signing it for.  It just sucks when a company sees someone already down and tries to kick them down even further.

I called them up to find out about dropping my service from the package I currently have to one which will save me money for all the channels my wife and I don’t watch.  It turns out that I have to pay $90 for them to send me a regular box because they can’t turn my HD off from their side or something like that.  It isn’t enough that I’ve been faithfully paying my bill, they want me to pay extra for the pleasure of not watching HD.  It’s odd though because when I asked for a new box because my second one wasn’t working they sent it to me overnight and didn’t even ask for the original back.  I sent it back to them because I didn’t want any mysterious charges on my account.

There are only 3 more months left until my contract is up and I can’t wait.  I have my Terk HDTV antenna on order, and my HTPC is only a few days away from being configured.  Hopefully something changes over there so they’re worthwhile giving another chance.  At this point, all hope is lost.
