Crunchgear put together a list of 5 rules to live by when looking to purchase a HDTV. While it isn’t the most comprehensive list, it will definitely take you from not knowing where to start to being able to make a better decision buying decision.
Rule 1 is that you should buy for the room you’re going to put the TV. Very often people buy the biggest HDTV they can fit in their trunk or the best deal. They forget that watching it is a much different exercise than just buying it. Having a room that’s too big with a television which isn’t big enough or vice versa will make you really annoyed after spending several hundred (if not thousand) dollars.
Rule 2 is to buy what looks good to you. When you walk into an electronics store you’ll see a bunch of specs flying around to incentivize you to buy a higher end television. 720p/1080p, 120Hz/240Hz, LCD/LED/plasma and a host of other things could make you dizzy but when you walk around make sure you buy what looks good to you and don’t get put off by all of the jargon. If you can’t see it, there won’t be any value in buying a television with it.
