I don’t have a crystal ball, but 3D is going to be the buzzword at the 2010 CES show. Everyone from Samsung to Sony to Panasonic are going to be introducing new models which will take advantage of 3D content.
DirecTV has come out and struck first blood by saying they are going to have a 3D channel in 2010. Watching news or a sitcom in 3D doesn’t sound like much fun so expect it to be a movie channel. No word on pricing has been given but it will likely be another $15 per month to access this content.
The best part in all of this is that if you’ve purchased a HDTV within the last 3 years chances are that your television is already 3D ready. This means that once you update the firmware on your set top box you’ll be set. The only other thing you’ll need are some glasses and watching Jurassic Park will never be the same.
Expect Comcast, Time Warner, and Cablevision to come out with similar plans. There’s no way they are going to let DirecTV get all the bragging rights and not offer a way to charge people more money for their service.
