If you were to consider the top HDTV manufacturers you can count them on one hand: Panasonic, Vizio, Samsung, Sony, and LG. There are lots of other brands which appears on store shelves but they could end up going away, at least in the mind of Vizio CEO, William Yang. He said:
The expansion of the top vendors’ market share will be facilitated by fast drops in product prices that will significantly narrow their price differences with minor brands, Wang said.
The growing dominance of big players in the LCD TV market is inevitable, according to industry observers in Taiwan. But for a specific market, the big players may not be only those international brands, as domestic brands often are strong competitors.
His quote makes a lot of sense when you figure that over the last few years the price gap between Vizio and other larger HDTV brands has narrowed. At some point it just won’t make sense to buy a cheap no-name brand television and those brands will disappear as demand for those televisions approaches zero.
