After only a few weeks of being announced at CES 2010 Samsung is starting to push their new 2010 line of LED HDTVs. The biggest feature being promoted in this year’s line of televisions is that they ready for 3D right out of the box.
Models from previous years require a firmware update and so far Samsung hasn’t said much about if such an update will ever actually be made available.
The B7000 series helped Samsung capture market share for LED HDTVs in 2009, and the C7000 series looks to help Samsung continue in 2010.
There are three sizes available currently.
The C7000 series will be available in 40, 46, and 55 inches. Stores will start discounting them once they start shipping but they will be priced at $1,999, $2,599, and $3,299 respectively.
When compared to the 2009 B7000 series, the C7000 series provides several advantages. The refresh rate gets upgraded from 120Hz to 240Hz. Also, the C7000 series has an ambient light sensor to allow the television to adjust the backlight based on the amount of light in the room. Lastly 2010 models are built to Energy Star 4.0 standards making them more efficient than 2009 models which were only built to Energy Star 3.0 spec.
There is a healthy premium on these new televisions and there’s no telling if customers are going to bite. While there are some improvements in features, it’s hard to say if those upgrades are worth the extra $500+ dollars.
