Samsung is still king when it comes to flat panel HDTV sales. According to iSuppli, Samsung managed to sell almost 7 million LCD, LED, and Plasma HDTVs in the US over the course of 2009. This is an increase of over 20 percent when compared to sales in 2008. The increase was the result of a wide range of products, wide distribution online and in stores like Best Buy as well as marketing partnerships with the NFL.
Their hold on the number 1 spot is quickly coming loose because of Vizio. Vizio captured the top sales spot in the category of LCD HDTVs. They almost doubled sales in 2009 and are eying taking over completely in 2010.
In what started as a race to the bottom is a now a race to the top. Vizio is no longer the signature low price brand they used to be. Now they are among the top names used when people recommend or shop for a LCD television.
