According to a report from Digitimes.com, LED HDTVs (at least the 40 inch sized ones) are set to start dropping in price. Currently 2010 LED HDTV models are ranging in price from $1,199 which is a big increase over the $599 average price for a 40 inch LCD HDTV.
LED is a great technology which allows televisions to be lighter, and use less energy but doesn’t do much to make them any cheaper. As LED HDTVs add new features such as 3D and internet connectivity more and more people are deciding to upgrade despite the price premium.
By the end of the year, the 40 inch size of these kinds of televisions could drop in price as much as 40% which would bring a $1,200 television down to a more respectable $849.
Based on some research I’ve conducted in the past the real sweet spot for television is between $600 and $800. It looks like we’ll have to wait until 2011 for 40 inch LED TVs to get to this price.
