Samsung To Face Lawsuit Over “3D Ready” Label On DLP TVs?

Access more than 7.4 million parts at Parts Direct

Oh Samsung, you just enjoy being the bad-boy-rebel-without-a-cause of the HDTV space don’t you?  When you aren’t paying fines for fixing prices of LCD screens or memory you find other ways to make people disappointed in you and your products.  It almost makes me wonder how you guys manage to sell so much product.

The latest tragedy for Samsung owners is focused specifically with DLP TV owners.

When Samsung trotted out their DLP televisions they labeled them as “3D ready.”  What they really meant is that IF they ever decided to that they could issue a firmware update and make the necessary hardware available to let owners become part of the 3D age.

It turns out that all of that was a bunch of lie.  In fact, when one Samsung DLP owner asked Samsung point blank about this issue here is the response they got:

Dear William,

Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics.

With reference to your email, we understand that you want suggest Samsung to produce 3D Adapter for the
DLP TV.

We are sorry to inform that the DLP TV is noat Compatible with latest 3D technology.

However, we shall forward your request to concern department.

If you require any further information, feel free to contact us.

Thank you,

Samsung Online Support.

Horrible grammar aside, this is just plain wrong.  Samsung motivated people who could have bought a Mitsubishi (who will ACTUALLY work with other 3D hardware) hoping that one day they’d be able to watch The World Cup in 3D with millions of other people this year.

Samsung isn’t going to be giving these people anything for their trouble.  Even if they get sued it won’t change that millions of people have been tricked into the features of their television the same way Microsoft and it’s hardware partners made people think that computers could be upgraded to Windows Vista.

It seems like it’s about time for someone to start a Facebook group and see what happens.

No joke here. The dlp's will not work with playstation 3, or blue ray 3d player's. I should have recorded the conversation that I had several months ago with an online customer support rep with samsung, as they told me that the tv was capable of future 3d technologies. All I needed was the tri def 3d glasses package, as samsung no longer manufactures the glasses themselves.
Now they are telling me that the tv will only work with the tri def software to stream from my pc. Playstation 3 and 3d blue ray players are not supported.
Seems like I just wasted 2000 plus dollars on a false prophet. If Samsung was smart and wanted to save face from being the biggest joke in TV entertainment. They would come up with a way to make their quote unquote “3D READY” TV's actaully 3d READY!

How do we start a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT??
The crooks @ Samsung need to take back their FRAUDLULENT 3D TV'S so we can buy

DON'T buy the Tri-def products. They “say” they work with Samsung, but you also have to buy their converter and you have to have your TV connected to a computer (make sure you check their requirements! A computer with all the graphics they say their program needs to run would be in the $2000 range last I looked.) in order to be able to use their 3D, which still does not work. I've spent much $$ on this and it's never worked and am very disappointed in the whole outcome.

I'm no lawyer but it might be hard to win that suit since the tv does display 3d, the only problem is that it only displays checkerboard format and almost all new 3d content is in some other format. It would have been nice for Samsung to make a converter as Mitsubishi has to convert all 3d content to checkerboard and it's just smart business as they would actually make money off of it. It would also be helpful if they could train their staff as to the few ways you can get 3d on the Samsung dlp, the panasonic BDT 300 3d bluray player does output in checkerboard format so should be the first suggestion that they make and one ps3 game, Avatar, also will output checkerboard. You can also just buy the Mitsubishi converter and get an hdmi detective($100.00) wich you can trick the converter to think your tv is a Mitsubishi. I just don't understand why Samsung wouldn't do something that would not only make they're customers happy but also make them money.

Stanford: Could you please provide me with the Model # of the TV ?

Visitor: I noticed that Mitsubishi offers a converter for their older DLP models

    Visitor: HL72A650

Visitor: I was just wondering if there was something similar for the Samsung?

Stanford: Let me check that for you.

Visitor: That would be great – We've spent a lot of

Visitor: $ trying to make this work

Stanford: If that is possible I will surely let you know about it.

Stanford: I am sorry to inform you, I have checked the information for you at present we are not providing any such kind of offers.

Visitor: So, there is no way to make my “3-D ready” TV actually play in 3-D?

Stanford: Yes, you cannot make it.

Visitor: I guess I don't understand how Samsung can call this TV “3D ready” if you cannot make it play 3D? I”m confused?

Stanford: 3D ready means that the TV is capable of displaying 3D content such as 3D games, movies, and other programming in 3D. The easiest way to verify that your TV is 3D ready is to check that your TV has a 3D Sync Out connection on the back connection panel.
